We arrange Seniors Friendly Matches against nine local Clubs on a Home and Away basis. We have a couple of away days during the season and we try to run beginning of season and end of season get-togethers, usually March and October.
The main purpose of the matches is Friendly games and the overall match result will usually be announced as an Honourable Draw. Play is 4BBB with the shots taken from the lowest handicap player with 90% difference.
There is competitive Seniors golf in the MDGA Seniors KO and from 2025 the new Mersey Seniors League.
We do not need jacket and tie at most clubs but a change to smart casual is expected and the Home Players are expected to buy the drinks for the visitors.
A better ball game of golf including a two course meal for very reasonable cost – As these games are social, we feel that every player should be able to stay for a meal / drink after the game.
Juniors (both boys and girls) are divided into two main groups – “Beavers” aged between 6-9 years and “Juniors” aged between 10-17 years. They are very welcome to use the golf course during the week (with the exception of the Ladies reserved tee on Thursdays, Saturdays until ½ hour after the last group of men playing in the competition and Sundays until 12 noon). Beavers must be accompanied by an adult when using the course.
Sale Golf Club is very keen to encourage junior golfers and is proud of being one of only four Cheshire “Junior Starter Centres”. With the support of the Golf Foundation, we have been able to offer a “Summer School” for juniors from local primary schools and hope to expand this in the future. Regular coaching sessions for both Beavers and Juniors are held on Saturday and Sunday mornings on our new practice ground area.
The Juniors play an active part in providing teams for the inter-club matches with the other Mersey golf clubs and also take part in the Derbyshire & Cheshire Junior Knockout competition.
This particular section offers a mixture of both formal and friendly, social competitions. The highlight of the year is the annual D’Oyly Carte Trophy, a mixed foursome Stableford competition.
A Mixed Matchplay Knockout competition is also run for the Howie Trophy. For those interested in social, friendly, mixed golf a series of “Frolic Competitions” are offered during the summer.
