Men's Section

The Club is able to offer several categories of membership for the men - 5, 6 or 7 days. Although the main competitions day is Saturday, around 20 mid-week competitions are also held generally on Wednesdays. Thursdays are reserved for ladies competitions between 8.45am and Midday with further priority given to lady competitors in the late afternoon after and also for a short while on Sundays starting at 10.30 a.m.

An extensive fixture list is offered throughout the year with a variety of different competition formats. Sale Men’s Section also participates in the Mersey League providing both a 1st Team and 2nd Team for these inter-club matches. Other major external competitions in which the section compete include the prestigious Dunham Forest Trophy and Manchester Alliance competitions.

Friendly, informal inter-club matches are arranged for the “Seniors” throughout the main golfing season as are both internal Summer and Winter Club knockout competitions.

Juniors Section

Juniors (both boys and girls) are divided into two main groups - “Beavers” aged between 6-9 years and “Juniors” aged between 10-17 years. They are very welcome to use the golf course during the week (with the exception of the Ladies reserved tee on Thursdays, Saturdays until ½ hour after the last group of men playing in the competition and Sundays until 12 noon). Beavers must be accompanied by an adult when using the course.

Sale Golf Club is very keen to encourage junior golfers and is proud of being one of only four Ches hire “Junior Starter Centres”. With the support of the Golf Foundation, we have been able to offer a “Summer School” for juniors from local primary schools and hope to expand this in the future. Regular coaching sessions for both Beavers and Juniors are held on Saturday and Sunday mornings on our new practice ground area.

The Juniors play an active part in providing teams for the inter-club matches with the other Mersey golf clubs and also take part in the Derbyshire & Cheshire Junior Knockout competition.

This particular section offers a mixture of both formal and friendly, social competitions. The highlight of the year is the annual D’Oyly Carte Trophy, a mixed foursome Stableford competition.

Men’s Senior Section

We arrange Seniors Friendly Matches against nine local Clubs on a Home and Away basis. We have an away day during the season and we try to run beginning of season and end of season get-togethers, usually March and October.
The main purpose of the matches is Friendly games and the overall match result will usually be announced as an Honourable Draw. Play is 4BBB with the shots taken from the lowest handicap player with 90% difference.
We do not need jacket and tie at most clubs but a change to smart casual is expected and the Home Players are expected to buy the drinks for the visitors.
A better ball game of golf including a two course meal for £10.00 - As these games are social, we feel that every player should be able to stay for a meal / drink after the game.
The section is run using emails and teams are selected and a volunteer captain then selects the pairings from the confirmed available players.
