Sale Golf Club are considering expanding their trophy cabinet after enjoying one of the most successful seasons in their 103 year history. As well as retaining the Men’s Mersey League title, the Ladies won the Mersey Shield with success also following in the Men’s Derbyshire and Cheshire League, the WGTB Trophy and the prestigious Manchester and District mixed golf Archie Preston and Hancock Trophies.
Club Captain David Moore said “At Sale we have a very comprehensive fixture list with all sections of the club having the opportunity to play competitive golf at least twice a week, and this has laid the foundation for our extraordinary success this year”.
Lady Captain Maria Walmsley added “our ladies section is very proud of our tradition and the success we have enjoyed. We not only have Joanne Morley, who played in the Solheim Cup and Curtis Cup supporting our Ladies we have the current Women’s amateur Champion Cath Rawthore. Our 2016 successes really are down to the hard work and support we get throughout the Club.”
Sale Golf Club has also has a vibrant Seniors Section playing ‘friendly’ matches with clubs throughout the north west and just to prove that age is no barrier Sale Golf Club boasts one of the most active and busy Junior section in the Mersey Valley. Sale was host to the Joanne Morley Junior Challenge for both boys and girls under the age of 16 with Sale junior Daniel O’Gorman coming out on top. One of Sale’s rising stars, Adam Carr, reduced his handicap from 21 to 11 in the season and is now in the Cheshire under 13’s fold. Sale is certainly sowing the seeds for the future.
David Moore concluded “I am very proud of what we have achieved this year, but we will not be resting on our laurels. I know there is a real sense of pride throughout the club and everyone is keen to repeat our triumphs in 2017”.
